Ending Forced Arbitration for Data Breach Victims

This act protects citizens by preventing companies from forcing them into arbitration for disputes arising from data breaches. This means that if your personal data, such as Social Security numbers or bank details, is stolen, you can pursue your rights in court, not just through private arbitration. The act also voids such clauses in existing agreements.
Key points
Companies can no longer require customers to agree to arbitration for disputes related to personal data breaches.
If your data is stolen, you can sue the company in court and seek damages, restitution, and legal fees.
The Federal Trade Commission and state attorneys general can enforce these rules, and arbitration clauses in old agreements are voided.
