Disaster Relief: Aid for Contiguous Areas and Cumulative Damage

This act makes it easier to get federal aid after natural disasters. It expands support to areas next to those officially declared disaster zones. Additionally, it allows for aid when multiple smaller natural events over a year, which individually wouldn't qualify, collectively cause significant damage.
Key points
More people and areas can get disaster aid: If your area borders a place that received assistance, you might also qualify.
Cumulative damage from multiple events: Even if individual storms or floods weren't severe enough, their combined impact over a year can now qualify for federal support.
Faster guidance: FEMA is required to issue interim rules to implement the new provisions quickly.
