Food Assistance Rules Change: Higher Benefits for Seniors and Disabled.

This act changes how income is calculated for individuals applying for food assistance. Starting October 1, 2021, Cost of Living Adjustments (COLA) from Social Security and supplementary payments will not be counted as income. This means more people may qualify for food assistance or receive higher benefits, potentially improving their financial well-being.
Key points
Social Security Cost of Living Adjustments (COLA) will no longer reduce food assistance benefits.
Supplementary Social Security payments will also be excluded from income when determining food assistance eligibility.
These changes take effect on October 1, 2021, potentially increasing support for seniors and disabled individuals.
