Equal Burial Rights for National Guard and Reservists

New rules ensure that National Guard and Reserve members who served honorably, along with their spouses and children, can be buried in state-run veterans' cemeteries. This means states can no longer deny burial to these individuals, even if they don't qualify for federal cemetery burial. The act makes it easier for veterans' families to access burial sites closer to home.
Key points
Expands burial eligibility at state veterans' cemeteries for honorably discharged National Guard and Reserve members.
Allows spouses and children of eligible National Guard and Reserve members to be buried in state cemeteries.
Prohibits federal agencies from denying grants to states that permit these individuals to be buried in their veterans' cemeteries.
Ensures states can use federal funds to expand and maintain cemeteries to accommodate more eligible individuals.
