COVID-19 Relief for Border Businesses: Loans and Forgiveness
This act establishes a loan program for small businesses located near the U.S. border that have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. These businesses can receive interest-free loans up to $500,000, which may be partially or fully forgiven. The aim is to help maintain jobs and cover operational costs during the challenging period.
Key points
Businesses within 25 miles of the U.S. border, with annual gross receipts up to $500,000, can apply for interest-free loans up to $500,000.
Loans can be used for payroll, paid sick leave, rent, debt repayment, personal protective equipment, and logistical expenses due to border closures.
Part or all of the loan may be forgiven, and repayment of any remaining amount will not begin earlier than one year after receipt.
An advance of at least $10,000 can be requested within three days of application, which is non-repayable even if the loan is denied.
Receiving this aid does not prevent access to other federal support programs, and forgiven amounts will not be taxed.
