Support for Re-entering Workforce: Newly Employed Worker Allowance

This act introduces a new financial allowance for individuals who find new employment after receiving unemployment benefits due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It aims to encourage a quicker return to the labor market by offering financial support during the initial weeks of employment. Individuals who voluntarily leave their job within 6 weeks may be required to repay the funds, unless the reason for leaving was related to COVID-19 or unsafe working conditions.
Key points
Individuals who find employment after receiving pandemic-related unemployment benefits may receive up to 9 weekly payments of $180.
The allowance is designed to aid the transition from unemployment to employment, providing financial stability at the start of a new job.
In some cases, a one-time lump sum payment of the entire allowance may be made instead of weekly payments.
If an individual voluntarily separates from employment within 6 weeks of receiving the payment, they must repay it, unless the reason is COVID-19 or unsafe working conditions.
The goal is to incentivize a faster return to the workforce and reduce reliance on unemployment benefits.
