States to Recover Unclaimed Savings Bonds

This act aims to help states recover funds from unredeemed savings bonds that citizens have forgotten. This allows states to use these funds for their residents' needs, while also making it easier for original owners to reclaim their money if they come forward.
Key points
States can take ownership and redeem unredeemed savings bonds that matured before December 31, 2017.
States will receive information about bond owners to assist in locating them.
If a state fails to pay a rightful owner, the owner can still seek redemption directly from the U.S. government.
