Unemployment Support: New Funding Rules for Work Programs

This act aims to improve unemployment support programs by introducing new funding rules. The changes ensure federal funds are directly used for job assistance and social support, rather than replacing state spending. Citizens can expect employment assistance programs to be more focused on their needs.
Key points
Prohibits states from using federal funds to replace their own spending on assistance programs.
States must reserve at least 25% of federal grants for core activities like assistance, case management, work supports, and short-term benefits.
At least 25% of state expenditures from non-private sources must be for core activities.
The changes will take effect on October 1, 2022.
