Subsidized Employment for Low-Income Individuals: New Pilot Programs

This act introduces pilot programs to help low-income individuals find and keep jobs through wage subsidies. The goal is to increase employment opportunities and improve the financial situation of welfare recipients. The programs will be monitored to assess their effectiveness.
Key points
Wage Subsidies: Unemployed individuals or those with low incomes (below 200% of the poverty line) can receive wage subsidies for up to 12 months, covering up to 50% of their salary.
No Displacement of Workers: Programs must ensure that participants do not take jobs from individuals who have been laid off from similar positions.
Effectiveness Evaluation: The effectiveness of the programs will be thoroughly evaluated to determine if they help in retaining employment and increasing earnings after the subsidies end.
Funding Availability: $100 million has been allocated for these pilot programs, with changes taking effect on October 1, 2022.
