Parental choice in child's primary health insurance coverage.

This act grants parents of newborns greater flexibility in selecting their child's primary health insurance coverage if both parents have separate policies. Parents can jointly decide which policy will cover the child's medical expenses first, potentially impacting their finances and access to healthcare.
Key points
Parents can choose which of their two separate insurance policies will be the primary coverage for a newborn child.
The decision to select primary coverage must be made within 60 days of the child's birth.
The chosen insurance will remain primary until parents jointly decide to change it or one parent loses their coverage.
These changes apply to children born on or after January 1, 2022.
