Online Privacy Protection: Your Data Under Control

The BROWSER Act aims to regulate user privacy rights regarding the internet. It requires providers of broadband internet access service and edge services to clearly state their privacy policies and obtain consent for data use, depending on its sensitivity. This empowers users to have a greater say in who uses their information and how.
Key points
Broadband and edge service providers must clearly disclose their privacy policies.
Sensitive user information (including financial, health, location, browsing history) can only be used with explicit consent (opt-in).
For non-sensitive information, opt-out approval is required, which the user can withdraw at any time.
Providers cannot condition the provision of service on a user's agreement to waive privacy rights.
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) will enforce these rules, and State laws regarding user information privacy will be preempted by this Act.
