Increased Student Loan Forgiveness for Public Service Workers

This act aims to ease student loan repayment for individuals working in public service. It introduces the possibility of partial debt forgiveness after a specified period of employment, which can significantly reduce the financial burden for many citizens. Additionally, during public service employment, loans can be deferred and interest canceled.
Key points
Individuals in public service may receive partial student loan forgiveness after 2, 4, 6, 8, or 10 years of employment.
The forgiveness percentage increases with the length of service, reaching 30% after 10 years.
During public service employment, eligible federal direct loans can be deferred and accrued interest canceled.
The program applies to new federal direct loans taken out after the act's enactment date.
