Support for Veteran Families After Suicide: Flag and Counseling

This bill creates new support for the next of kin of veterans who died by suicide on or after September 11, 2001. It includes a special flag for remembrance and free counseling services.
Key points
Families of veterans who died by suicide on or after September 11, 2001, will be eligible for a special "Green Star Flag".
Next of kin and certain former volunteer caregivers of these veterans will be entitled to free counseling services from the Department of Veterans Affairs.
The Department of Veterans Affairs must start the counseling program within 90 days of the law being enacted.

To amend titles 36 and 38, United States Code, to direct the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to carry out actions for certain surviving family members of veterans deceased as the result of suicide, and for other purposes.
