Easier Access to Home Infusion Therapy for Medicare Patients

New rules aim to improve access to home infusion therapy for individuals covered by Medicare. The changes include expanding covered services and providing more flexibility in how treatment plans are managed by medical staff.
Key points
Medicare will now explicitly cover pharmacy services as part of home infusion therapy.
Payment for home infusion will be for the day the drug is administered, regardless of the provider's physical presence.
Nurse practitioners and physician assistants will be able to establish and review home infusion plans, similar to physicians.
These changes take effect on January 1, 2022.
