Safer Products: New Rules for Button Batteries

This law makes products using small, round batteries safer for children. It requires manufacturers to secure battery compartments to prevent young children from opening them and to include clear warnings. Button batteries themselves must also be sold in child-resistant packaging.
Key points
Products containing button or coin batteries must have battery compartments that are difficult for young children to open.
Warning labels about the danger of swallowing these batteries will be required on product packaging, instructions, and the products themselves.
Button and coin batteries sold separately or with products must be in child-resistant packaging.
