Increased Compensation and Support for Radiation Exposure Victims

This act expands the compensation program for individuals affected by radiation exposure, including uranium miners and those living near nuclear test sites. It increases compensation amounts, simplifies the claims process, and provides additional medical benefits, directly improving the lives and health of affected citizens.
Key points
Increased Compensation: Payouts for radiation-related illnesses are raised to $150,000 for all eligible individuals.
Expanded Eligibility: More people, including uranium miners, mill workers, and core drillers, as well as those with new diseases (e.g., chronic lymphocytic leukemia, kidney diseases), can now claim compensation.
Easier Proof: Applicants can now use written affidavits from others to substantiate employment history or presence in affected areas.
Additional Medical Benefits: Individuals receiving compensation will be eligible for medical benefits, similar to those in the Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program.
New Deadlines and Resubmissions: The claim filing deadline is extended, and previously denied claimants can resubmit up to three times. Those who already received compensation can apply for additional funds.
Research Program: A grant program will be established for epidemiological studies on the health impacts of uranium mining and milling on non-occupationally exposed individuals, including miners' families.
