Restrictions on Fetal Tissue Research: Only from Stillbirths.

New regulations change the rules for scientific research using human fetal tissue. Such research will now only be permitted if the tissue comes from stillbirths, not abortions. This aims to ensure that research is conducted ethically and in accordance with state law regarding anatomical gifts.
Key points
Research with human fetal tissue will only be allowed if the tissue is obtained from stillbirths.
The use of fetal tissue obtained from abortions in scientific research is prohibited.
Research into alternatives to fetal tissue, such as organoids and stem cells, will be supported.
The definition of "human fetal tissue" has been amended to include only tissue from a dead human embryo or fetus after a stillbirth.
Federal regulations must be revised to incorporate these new requirements within one year of the act's enactment.
