Military Academy Nominations: Continuity After Congressional Vacancy

This act ensures that nominations to prestigious military academies, such as West Point or the Naval Academy, are not lost if a Member of Congress responsible for them leaves office. This means young people applying for these spots still have a chance at military education and careers, regardless of sudden political changes.
Key points
If a Senator dies, resigns, or is expelled, their nominations for military academies are taken over by the other Senator from the same state.
If a Representative dies, resigns, or is expelled, their nominations for military academies are taken over by the Senators from that state, divided equally.
These changes apply to nominations for the United States Military Academy, United States Naval Academy, United States Air Force Academy, and United States Merchant Marine Academy.
