Easier Retirement Access for Part-Time Workers

This act makes it easier for part-time employees to access 401(k) and 403(b) retirement plans. It changes service requirements, allowing eligibility after two consecutive 12-month periods with a specific number of service hours.
Key points
Part-time employees can join retirement plans if they work at least 500 hours in each of two consecutive 12-month periods.
12-month periods beginning before January 1, 2021, will not be taken into account for this requirement.
Employers may elect to exclude these employees from certain non-discrimination rules and top-heavy rules.
