This bill introduces new tax credits for individuals subscribing to local newspapers and for businesses or individuals advertising with or donating to local newspapers. The aim is to support local media and improve access to information. These changes could lower your taxes if you support local journalism.
Key points
You can get a tax credit for 100% of your local newspaper subscription costs, up to $200 per year.
Businesses and individuals can deduct up to $1,000 annually for advertising with or donating to local newspapers.
A local newspaper is defined as a print or digital publication primarily serving a regional community with a daily circulation under 10,000.
These benefits apply to tax years beginning after December 31, 2021, and will expire after December 31, 2026.
