Student Loan Forgiveness for Disaster Survivors with SBA Loans

This act aims to help individuals affected by disasters who received recovery loans from the Small Business Administration (SBA). It allows for the discharge of some or all of their federal student loan debt to prevent double debt burdens.
Key points
Individuals who received an SBA disaster loan on or after January 1, 2020, may be eligible for federal student loan forgiveness.
The amount of student loan forgiveness cannot exceed the amount of the received SBA disaster loan.
The Department of Education will create procedures to identify eligible individuals and process the loan discharges.
