Climate Solutions Act 2021: Clean Energy and Efficiency Standards

This act aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by establishing national standards for renewable energy and energy efficiency. It mandates that all electricity sold at the retail level will eventually come from renewable sources, and energy providers will be required to meet electricity and natural gas savings targets through improvements at customer facilities.
Key points
By 2035, 100 percent of electricity sold at the retail level in the U.S. must come from renewable sources.
Annual energy savings targets will be set for electricity and natural gas suppliers, to be achieved through end-use efficiency improvements.
The act mandates a reduction of U.S. net greenhouse gas emissions by at least 52 percent by 2035 (below 2005 levels) and net-zero emissions by 2050.
