Restrictions on Health Savings for Abortion Expenses

This bill changes the rules for using funds from Health Savings Accounts (HSAs), Archer MSAs, Health Flexible Spending Arrangements (FSAs), and Health Reimbursement Arrangements (HRAs). Once enacted, these funds generally cannot be used to cover abortion costs, except in cases of rape, incest, or when the woman's life is in danger. These changes may affect how citizens plan their medical expenses.
Key points
Most abortion costs will not be considered qualified medical expenses for Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) and similar plans.
Exceptions include abortions resulting from rape, incest, or when the woman's life is at risk.
The changes will apply to expenses incurred in tax years beginning after December 31, 2022.
