Protecting Landline Phone Numbers After Natural Disasters

This act protects landline phone numbers after a major disaster declaration. Providers cannot reassign or modify numbers without the subscriber's request. Citizens can keep their number, even if their home is inaccessible, and reconnect it later without extra fees.
Key points
Your landline phone number is protected after a disaster: the provider cannot take it or change it without your consent.
You can request to extend this protection for one year after the disaster period ends.
If you cancel service because your home is inaccessible, you won't pay early termination fees, and you can reconnect the same number later without connection fees.
