Support for Deceased Veterans' Families: New Benefit Payment Rules

This act changes the rules for paying benefits after a veteran's death, broadening the scope of individuals entitled to receive accrued funds. This ensures that if a veteran passes away, their spouse, children, or parents can more easily receive due, unpaid benefits. The changes aim to ensure that money the veteran was entitled to reaches their closest relatives.
Key points
Broadening the definition of "eligible survivor" for deceased veteran benefits to include spouse, children, and parents.
Enabling the payment of accrued monetary benefits (other than insurance) for the entire period the veteran was entitled but did not receive them.
Changes take effect immediately upon enactment and apply to deaths occurring on or after that date.
