Pharmacist Services Access: New Medicare Part B Rules

This act aims to expand the scope of services covered by Medicare Part B to include certain services provided by pharmacists. This means citizens may have easier access to testing, vaccinations, and treatment for certain illnesses like COVID-19 or flu directly from a pharmacist, potentially saving time and money.
Key points
Medicare Part B will cover the costs of selected services provided by pharmacists, such as tests for COVID-19, flu, RSV, and strep throat, as well as initiation of treatment for these conditions.
Pharmacists will be able to administer COVID-19 and flu vaccines, and the costs of these services will also be covered by Medicare Part B.
The act stipulates that payments for pharmacist services will be 85% of the physician fee schedule amount, and 100% for services furnished under federal emergency authority.
Pharmacists and pharmacies will be able to directly submit claims for payment for these services, simplifying the billing process.
