Easier Home Loans for DACA Recipients

This act aims to make homeownership more accessible for individuals under the DACA program. It clarifies that their DACA status cannot be a barrier to obtaining federal mortgage insurance from agencies like FHA or the Rural Housing Service, nor can it prevent Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac from purchasing their mortgages. This ensures DACA recipients, who meet all other standard lending criteria, have equal opportunities to buy a home.
Key points
DACA status cannot be a reason to deny mortgage insurance from the Federal Housing Administration (FHA).
The Rural Housing Service cannot deny home loans based on DACA status.
Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac cannot refuse to purchase mortgages solely due to the borrower's DACA status.
DACA recipients must still meet all other standard mortgage eligibility requirements.
