Enhanced Passenger Protection Against Airline Delays and Cancellations

This act aims to enhance protection for airline passengers. It grants the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) greater authority to act against airlines that sell tickets for flights they know will be understaffed, or that cancel/delay flights due to staffing shortages. This means airlines will be more accountable for flight punctuality and availability, potentially reducing passenger frustration and losses.
Key points
The FTC can now penalize airlines for unfair practices, such as selling tickets for flights without sufficient staff.
Airlines cannot cancel flights within 4 hours of departure if they knew about staffing issues 48 hours prior.
Airlines cannot delay domestic flights by more than 4 hours or international flights by more than 6 hours if they knew about staffing issues 48 hours prior.
State attorneys general can also sue airlines on behalf of residents to seek damages or injunctions.
