Energy Safety: Faster Tree Removal Near Power Lines

New rules aim to make it easier for utility companies to remove trees and vegetation near power lines, reducing the risk of fires and power outages. The changes will speed up approval processes for such activities and expand the area where hazards can be removed. Citizens may experience more stable energy supplies but also more frequent work near their properties.
Key points
Utility companies will be able to remove trees up to 50 feet (approx. 15 meters) from power lines, instead of the previous 10 feet (approx. 3 meters).
The approval process for vegetation management plans will be accelerated, meaning faster preventive actions.
Private landowners will be consulted regarding the removal of trees from their properties that pose a threat to power lines.
These activities will be excluded from certain environmental impact assessment procedures to streamline work, but will not apply to protected areas like national parks.
