Enhanced Protections and Support for Internationally Abducted Children and Parents.

This act strengthens U.S. government efforts in international child abduction cases, increasing support for parents and streamlining child recovery processes. It introduces new reporting and international cooperation requirements, and provides legal assistance for affected families.
Key points
Increased Parental Support: Parents whose children are abducted internationally will receive more information and assistance in locating them, including regular consular visits for children aged 16 and over.
Legal Aid: Victims of international parental child abduction, including left-behind parents, will be eligible for grants to cover legal expenses in the U.S. and abroad.
Stronger Government Action: The act mandates more robust actions by the State Department against countries that fail to cooperate in abduction cases, including action plans and regular audits.
Enhanced Law Enforcement Cooperation: All international parental child abduction cases will be reported to the FBI and the National Crime Information Center, as well as to Interpol (Yellow Notice), to facilitate their recovery.
Increased Sentencing for Abduction: The maximum prison sentence for international parental kidnapping is increased from 3 to 10 years, and the age of the child covered by the act is raised from 16 to 18.
