Expanding Fry Scholarship Eligibility for Veterans' Families

This act expands eligibility for the Fry Scholarship, which helps cover education costs. Now, in addition to families of service members who died in the line of duty, spouses and children of individuals who died from a service-connected disability within 120 days of leaving service will also receive support. These changes aim to provide greater educational assistance to veterans' families.
Key points
The Fry Scholarship will be available to spouses and children of veterans who died from a service-connected disability within 120 days after their service ended.
A condition for eligibility is that the deceased veteran received an honorable discharge from military service.
These changes apply to deaths occurring before, on, or after the act's enactment date, with benefits payable starting August 1, 2023.
