Expanded Family Leave: Care for Relatives and School Activities

This act broadens the scope of family and medical leave, allowing employees to care for a wider range of family members, including domestic partners, in-laws, adult children, and other related individuals. It also introduces new leave for parental involvement in children's and grandchildren's educational and extracurricular activities, and for routine family medical care needs, making it easier for citizens to balance work and personal life.
Key points
Ability to take leave to care for a domestic partner, in-laws, adult children, grandparents, grandchildren, siblings, aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews, as well as other blood relatives with a close family-like bond.
Introduction of additional leave (up to 24 hours annually) for participating in children's and grandchildren's school and extracurricular activities, routine medical and dental appointments for oneself or family members, and caring for elderly relatives.
Federal employees also gain these same expanded family and medical leave rights.
