Telehealth Ease: Audio-Only Diagnoses in Medicare Advantage

This act ensures that diagnoses of chronic conditions obtained solely via audio (audio-only) will be considered when determining Medicare Advantage plan adjustments. This means patients can use telehealth without video, and their health status will be accurately reflected in their insurance. Additionally, during the COVID-19 pandemic, telehealth services will be reimbursed at the same rate as in-person visits.
Key points
Audio-only diagnoses for chronic conditions will be included in Medicare Advantage risk adjustments, simplifying access to care.
Patients with chronic conditions can receive a diagnosis via phone if they have a prior relationship with the provider or practice.
During the COVID-19 emergency, telehealth services will be paid at the same rate as in-person services, supporting remote healthcare access.
