Support for Diplomat Families: Work, Education, and Relief

This act introduces several changes to ease the lives of Foreign Service families. It includes new policies for remote work (DETO), support for family members in finding employment and accessing education, and facilities for terminating leases and telecommunication services for employees posted abroad.

Federal agencies must establish a policy allowing employees to temporarily work remotely from approved overseas locations (DETO).
Establishment of employment and education support programs for eligible family members of diplomats, including hiring preferences within the Department of State.
Foreign Service members posted abroad can terminate residential/vehicle leases and phone contracts under similar conditions as active-duty military personnel.
Members of the Foreign Service on active duty for more than 30 days will be eligible for in-state tuition rates at public higher education institutions.
