Support for States to Establish Health Insurance Marketplaces

This act aims to provide additional funding for states that wish to create or expand their own health insurance marketplaces. This could give citizens in those states easier access to various insurance plans and more choices. States will receive grants to help launch these platforms, with the goal of improving access to healthcare.
Key points
States can receive up to $200 million in grants to establish or improve health insurance marketplaces.
Grants are one-time, awarded for 2 years, and available only until the end of 2024 for states that did not have their own marketplace before 2019.
Marketplaces established with these grants must become self-sustaining by January 1, 2026, meaning they will need to fund themselves through fees from insurers or other sources.
