Safe School Meals: Eliminating Pesticides from Children's Food

This act aims to remove the harmful pesticide chlorpyrifos from meals served in schools. This means that food provided to children through lunch and breakfast programs will be safer and free from this chemical, positively impacting their health.
Key points
Starting from the 2021-2022 school year, food containing chlorpyrifos will be gradually phased out from school meal programs.
A very low limit for the permissible amount of chlorpyrifos in food will be established to ensure children's safety.
Schools will receive support and guidance on how to procure food free of this substance, as well as technical assistance in enforcing the new rules.
