Support for Pregnant Veterans: Doula Services Pilot Program

This act establishes a pilot program to provide doula services to pregnant veterans. The goal is to improve maternal and mental health outcomes, enhance the birthing experience for veterans, and facilitate their re-engagement with the Department of Veterans Affairs after childbirth.
Key points
Pregnant or formerly pregnant veterans enrolled in the VA healthcare system will receive up to 10 doula support sessions.
Doula services will cover prenatal, labor and delivery, and postpartum support, including remote sessions.
The 5-year pilot program will be implemented in selected Veterans Integrated Service Networks, with a focus on training doulas for veteran-specific needs.
