Lung Cancer Early Detection: Free Screenings for High-Risk Individuals

This new law aims to expand access to lung cancer screenings. It will allow high-risk individuals to receive these screenings without additional costs, helping to detect the disease earlier and improve survival rates. These changes will take effect from January 1, 2022.
Key points
Insurers will be required to cover lung cancer screenings for individuals at very high risk, without imposing cost-sharing.
Screenings will be available for those with genetic, occupational, or other risks, following a referral from a specialist who explains the benefits and harms.
The act also covers individuals who quit smoking more than 15 years ago or are 80 years or older, who might not have previously qualified for free screenings.
