Child Nutrition Support: Extra Funds and Program Flexibility for School Meals.

The "Keep Kids Fed Act of 2022" provides additional funding for school meals and extends flexibility in their delivery to ensure children have access to food. This means schools and nutrition programs will receive more money for lunches and breakfasts, and will be able to more easily adapt meal service rules, especially during summer and in response to pandemic challenges. Some funds from other programs have been reallocated for this purpose.
Key points
Extra Money for School Meals: Schools will receive an additional 40 cents for each lunch and 15 cents for each breakfast in the 2022-2023 school year.
Support for Child and Adult Care Food Programs: Child and adult care programs will receive an additional 10 cents for each meal and supplement in the 2022-2023 school year.
Flexibility in Meal Delivery: Waivers for standard meal service rules have been extended, making it easier to provide meals, especially in summer programs and care facilities.
Fund Reallocation: Unused funds from other programs (including agriculture, education, and small businesses) have been redirected to support child nutrition programs.
Technical Assistance for Schools: The Department of Agriculture will provide support to schools in transitioning to standard meal program operations after temporary waivers expire.
