Health Data Protection: New Rules for Apps and Devices

This act aims to strengthen the protection of your private health data collected by popular apps, fitness devices, and genetic services. It introduces new rules for data consent, security, and your right to access and delete information. This will give you greater control over how your health data is used.
Key points
Greater data control: Apps and devices will need to clearly state how your health data is used and who has access to it before you give consent.
Easier consent withdrawal: You will be able to easily withdraw consent for the use of your data, as easily as you gave it.
Right to access and delete data: You will gain the right to receive a copy of your health data and, where practicable, to delete or amend it.
New security standards: The act requires the development of new security standards for companies collecting health data to better protect your information.
Task force for experts: A special task force will be established to study and advise on health data security issues, including genetic and biometric data.
