Fentanyl: New Classification and Penalties for Related Substances

This act aims to combat fentanyl-related substances by classifying them as illegal drugs. This means that possession, production, or trafficking of these substances will be subject to severe penalties, similar to fentanyl itself. Importantly, the act does not impose mandatory minimum sentences for these substances, allowing courts more flexibility in sentencing.
Key points
All chemically similar substances to fentanyl will be classified as illegal and strictly controlled.
Offenses involving these substances will carry penalties, but without mandatory minimum prison sentences.
The goal is to reduce the availability and spread of dangerous opioid substances.
