Restricting Public Information Access for Foreigners and Foreign Entities

This law changes the rules for accessing public information in the US. It limits the ability of non-US citizens, non-permanent residents, and certain foreign entities to request government documents. The goal is to protect US interests and security.
Key points
Individuals who are not US citizens or lawful permanent residents will not be able to file requests for public information, except for documents related to their own immigration court proceedings.
Entities without a principal place of business in the US, or those subsidiary to entities from certain countries (e.g., China, Russia), will also be restricted from accessing public information.
Disclosure of information susceptible to reverse engineering of technology that could harm US interests will be limited.
Knowingly assisting restricted individuals or entities in obtaining public information will be punishable by fine or imprisonment.
