Easier Access to Federal Land for Indian Tribes

This act expands the ability to sell and lease federal lands to federally recognized Indian Tribes. This allows tribes to more easily acquire land for recreational and public purposes, potentially supporting their social and economic development. These changes grant Indian Tribes the same land access rights as states and counties.
Key points
Federally recognized Indian Tribes can now purchase or lease federal lands for recreational and public purposes.
Acreage limits for tribal acquisitions have been increased: up to 6,400 acres for recreational purposes and up to 640 acres for public purposes.
The act grants Indian Tribes equal status with other entities, such as states and counties, in the land acquisition process.
