Expanded Background Checks for Firearm Sales

New rules require most private firearm sales to go through licensed dealers who will conduct background checks. This aims to enhance safety by making it harder for prohibited individuals to acquire firearms. However, exceptions exist for close family members and in emergency situations.
Key points
Most private firearm sales will now require a background check conducted by a licensed dealer.
Exceptions to background checks include transfers between close family members (e.g., spouses, parents and children, siblings) and temporary transfers to prevent imminent death or great bodily harm.
Temporary transfers for target shooting, hunting, or when in the presence of the transferor are also exempt.
The act explicitly prohibits the establishment of a national firearms registry and does not interfere with states' authority to enact similar laws.
