New Flood Information System and Improved Weather Forecasts

This act establishes a national integrated flood information system to provide faster and more accurate warnings. This will help citizens better prepare for floods, protecting lives and property. It also introduces improvements in tornado and hurricane forecasting.

Establishment of a National Integrated Flood Information System (NIFIS) to better inform and provide for more timely decision-making to reduce flood-related effects and costs.
Improvement of communication regarding future flood risks and hazardous flash flood events, including assessment and enhancement of warnings and information delivery to the public.
Strengthening freshwater monitoring along the coast and enhancing tornado and hurricane forecasts.
Creation of a hydrologic research fellowship program to support the development of water forecasting experts.
