Internet Access in Libraries: Hotspots for Local Communities

This new act aims to improve internet access for citizens, especially in rural and low-income areas. Libraries will receive funds to purchase and lend internet-connected devices, such as hotspots, and to upgrade public Wi-Fi. This will make it easier for citizens to use the internet at home and near libraries, supporting education and communication.
Key points
Libraries will be able to lend internet-connected devices (hotspots) for home use.
Public Wi-Fi in and around libraries will be upgraded, increasing internet availability.
The program also supports Native American and Native Hawaiian communities in accessing technology.
200 million dollars are authorized for the two-year program.
