Legal Aid for Children and Vulnerable Individuals in Immigration Proceedings

This act aims to provide free legal assistance to children and other vulnerable groups in immigration proceedings. It also ensures access to documents and legal orientation programs, facilitating fair case resolution and reducing court costs.
Key points
Unaccompanied children and other vulnerable individuals (e.g., victims of abuse, persons with disabilities, low-income individuals) will receive free legal counsel in immigration cases.
Individuals in removal proceedings will automatically receive copies of all relevant government documents, unless they waive this right.
All individuals detained in immigration facilities will have facilitated access to legal counsel and legal orientation programs, regardless of their immigration status.
If the government fails to appoint counsel for an eligible individual, time limits for filing motions to reopen will not apply, and removal will be stayed.
