Strengthening Sanctions for Human Rights Abuses and Corruption

This act strengthens the U.S. government's ability to impose sanctions on foreign individuals responsible for serious human rights abuses or corruption, including their immediate family members. The goal is to more effectively pursue those who benefit from illicit activities, influencing global ethical standards.
Key points
Expands the definition of persons subject to sanctions to include immediate family members (spouse, parent, sibling, adult child) of sanctioned individuals.
Removes the sunset clause for imposing sanctions, meaning sanctions can be applied indefinitely.
Strengthens provisions related to corruption, including misappropriation of state assets, expropriation of private assets for personal gain, corruption related to government contracts, and bribery.
Requires the U.S. President to regularly share information and sanction-related decisions with like-minded governments that have similar human rights and anti-corruption sanctions programs.
