Tax Credit for Lead Hazard Removal from Homes

This new act introduces a tax credit for homeowners who incur costs related to removing lead hazards from their properties. The aim is to protect health, especially children, from the harmful effects of lead, which can lead to developmental and learning problems. Through this credit, citizens can recover a portion of their expenses for safely removing lead hazards from their homes.
Key points
You can receive a 50% tax credit for lead hazard reduction costs, up to $3,000 for comprehensive abatement or $1,000 for interim control measures.
The cumulative credit amount per eligible dwelling unit cannot exceed $4,000.
The credit applies to homes built before 1978 and covers costs for risk assessment, lead abatement, interim control measures, and necessary relocation expenses.
To qualify, work must be performed by certified professionals, and completion must be documented in writing by a certified inspector or risk assessor.
The act aims to reduce the number of children suffering from health issues due to lead poisoning by encouraging safe lead removal from homes.
