Expedited Appeals Review for Interior Department Decisions

This new act aims to speed up the review of appeals concerning decisions made by the Department of the Interior, potentially reducing waiting times for final rulings on land and natural resource matters. If a decision isn't made within the set timeframe, citizens will gain the ability to take their case directly to court for a fresh review.
Key points
Citizens can request expedited review of appeals related to Department of the Interior decisions.
The Board of Land Appeals must issue a final decision within 6 months of an expedited review request, but no earlier than 18 months from the initial appeal filing.
If no decision is made within the deadline, citizens can immediately seek judicial review, where the case will be re-examined from scratch.
These rules apply to both pending appeals and those filed after the act's enactment.
